Average wind speed on the Balearic Islands can range between 5 and 15 knots during the summer months, creating the perfect sailing environmentand an ideal spot to showcase and race high end boats, classic sailing boats and yachts.
North winds dominate the southeastern part of the Balearic archipelago -Mallorca and Menorca - whereas the predominant winds in the western part - Ibiza and Formentera - are SE winds. For those who are looking for anchorages and peaceful places to relax, there is a large number of bays along the islands’ coast, but the northwesterdly Tramontana wind is strong and can appear unexpectedly on a sunny day.
2nd Dragon Winter Series – Puerto Portals | 17 – 19 January
The Dragon class winter regattas return to Puerto Portals!
The Dragon was designed by Johan Anker in 1929, and was an Olympic sailing class from 1948 to 1972. These beautiful sailing boats are 9m long with a 2m beam and an approximate weight of 1700kg. There are still some 1500 active boats in over 26 countries, with Germany leading the way with the largest number of boats.

This one is clearly not a sailing regatta, but as it is considered one of the 5 most important events on the Mallorca sporting calendar, then we felt it deserved a mention!
More than a hundred classic vehicles will be taking part in this year's Rally Clasico Isla Mallorca, a classic car race that takes in the most fabulous roads and impressive curves of the island. Rally drivers from all over Europe take part every year in this rally, with more than 90% of pilots repeating year after year. The route comprises of 480 kilometers divided into 14 sections, and will be taking place on the 12th, 13th and 14th of March.
33ª edition of the Ruta de la Sal – Mallorca to Ibiza | 9 – 12 March
Over 1500 sailors and a multicolored fleet of around 200 boats take part every year in this tremendous Mediterranean race, to commemorate the old salt route voyages in seach of the so-called White Gold.
This is not an easy race. The crossings are long and the date on which it is carried out is a meteorologically complicated time of year, but it has the highest participation of any Mediterranean regatta and has continued to grow in size year after year.
Departure from Port Ginesta (Barcelona), RCN Denia (Alicante) and CV Andratx (Mallorca) with arrival at Sant Antony Portmany on the island of Ibiza.
50 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia – Palma | 28 March – 4 April
It is a perfect kick start to the Olympic classes season in Europe, the annual Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar serves as a touchstone for year-on-year progress. Up to date info on this year's edition of the race is yet to be published.

Palmavela – R.C.N. Palma | 6 – 10 May
PalmaVela is a referential sailing event, not only in Spain, but also throughout the Mediterranean. Originally created as a regatta for Maxis, and formerly known as the Maxi Race Week, today it is possibly the most eagerly anticipated regatta for many ORC certified boat owners, not to mention the big boat fleets.
