Though you may have heard of many parts of Mallorca : Palma, Soller, Pollensa, Alcudia, you probably have never head of Costitx. It has kept itself pretty much off the radar for the past half century of tourism on the island. No small feat. The town is small and ancient. In fact so ancient that people keep finding archaelogical remains, dating as far back as the Talaiotic period. Only about 1200 people live here, mainly locals who have lived in the town for centuries. Aside from uneathing ancient remaisn, the town is famous for its observatory and Planeatarium - built here, because the night sky in Costitx, in this rural idyll away from the coastal buzz, boasts such a clear night sky that it is simply the best place in Mallorca to gaze at the cosmos.
