La Fortaleza Puerto de Pollensa Feature
“La Fortalesa” is an old fortress located in the Old Albercutix Estate, Peninsula in the Bay of Pollença on the Northeast of Mallorca. The property is situated near to the end of the Avançada Cape, next door to the lighthouse, dividing as a natural feature Formentor and Puerto Pollença. La Fortalesa is a very exclusive property not only due to its privacy, but also the views: just like and island with fantastic 360 º panoramic views to the mountains and the Pollença Bay, one of the most representative images of the Majorcan coastline.Despite the privileged location, it is next door to the military base of Port de Pollença, a fact that converts La Fortalesa into one of the most secure properties in the whole Mediterranean Sea. Even the Spaniard Crown contemplated the possibility to have there their Official Summer Residence. The whole buildings were originally a fortress-type, whose original construction dates back to 1622, in order to fight and defend from the pirates attacks. La Fortalesa was sold In 1919 to Roberto Ramauge, an argentinian artist who converted La Fortalesa into a glamorous residence, carrying out some adaptational building works, construction and creating nice gardening areas. The entire project was led by the Architect Antonio Saura. That was the beginning of the glorious years of La Fortalesa, being the place to meet for many artists such us Joaquín Sorolla, Angalada Camarassa, Andrés Segovia, Bernareggi, Tito Cittadini, and other celebrities of the social and culture elite. The Spaniard Civil war begun, and La Fortalesa was expropriated in favour of the Army. Years after it was in decay. In 1980 Ramauge´s descendent obtained the property back after long efforts and years of litigation, being sold to 1989 to the current owner. The property has an extension of aprox. 80.000 m2 land, of which 1.427 m2 are terraces and 1100 m2 of delightful gardens with palm trees, olive trees and pine trees. Due to its special location it is listed as a Natural Area of Exceptional Interest ( the highest rate of Protection on farm land). La Fortalesa has different buildings known as follows: The main Fortress, the artist´s studio, the sculptor´s studio, the priest´s house, the new house and the sculptor´s house next to 2 swimming-pools, garden and terracing areas.The Fortess is considered as the main house, and it has 1276 m2 built, and the rest of buildings have a total built area of 2846 m2.All buildings have been carefully restored during the last 15 years, and some works are still carried out today.
